“The Birdhouse”
Throughout the property, there is a ton of space for bocce, lawn darts or just hanging out in the hammock. As you walk up to the treehouse you will cross a cable suspension bridge heading to the front door. You will enter your personalized code (that we’ll provide you a day before) into the smart-lock for a streamline no-contact check in.
Past the kitchen is a small love-seat and little collection of books. The love-seat can fold out to sleep a child but it gets pretty tight! If you do wish to stay with a third guest, please let us know right away so we can make sure to supply extra bedding.
Out the back of the building is a pair of French doors that open up to a cedar deck and chairs with an awesome view of the mountains. It’s great for stargazing at night and your coffee in the morning.
Back inside there is a rolling library ladder that you climb up to the sleeping loft. Please make sure you lock it at the bottom before climbing up. If you have trouble with ladders or are claustrophobic, sadly, this dwelling won’t be enjoyable for you. Up in the loft is an ultra comfy mattress and silky smooth bamboo sheets. You’ll be looking up at the stars and branches through the pair of skylights overhead (you might want to bring a sleep mask if you need it to be dark in the morning!). We have a TV and Treehouse wifi for the ultimate Netflix and Chill experience.
There is a toilet room with an actual flush toilet which is quite rare for a treehouse or tiny home, but very convenient. There is no vanity in the toilet room but the kitchen sink (and everything else) is close by. Again, everything inside the treehouse is very compact so please be prepared for tight quarters and simple living.
One of my favourite features it offers is the outdoor shower; there’s not much better than being naked outside. It’s simple to use, just like any regular shower, but you’ll need to walk across the bridge and down a gravel path so please bring slippers or sandals! We will provide you with shampoo, conditioner and towels.
Location
The Birdhouse is located in Ryder Lake, which is a quiet little community in the mountains, with tons of hills and thick forest. The fenced property is quite private and spacious, but if you want to get out for a hike or bike ride, there is lots near by. All of the roads around the area are pretty scenic and nice for bike riding. Mt. Thom is 3 minutes away and is a quick / easy hike – you could even walk all the way to the trailhead too if you wanted. The popular, and more challenging, hike up Elk Mountain is also nearby and is perfect for a full day activity. 10 minutes down the mountain is the Vedder River and the trail along it. 10 minutes past that is Cultus Lake. Pubs and breweries are 17 minutes away, including Old Yale Brewing which is great to visit all year round.
Ryder Lake is a spacious mountain community, about 10 minutes from town, so there is no public transportation in the area. The best way to get into town is in your car, but if you just want to go for a walk or bike ride around the roads are nice and quiet.
