On Terschelling, one of the Wadden islands, in the village West aan Zee a recreation village is realized nicely hidden in the Dune landscape with a view over the Northsea. The basement is partly hidden in the dune with the result the volume assimilates into the landscape. The saddle roof is parallel to the surrounding roofs.
The living room feels spacious enlight because the total height of the building is used. The sphere is created by large glass facades alternate wooden and white walls and ceilings. The natural light can be influenced by opening or closing wooden panels. The large glass facades are glued together in the corners for the optimal experience of the dune landscape, the sea and sky. An attic offers space for the bookcase, to relax and read, like a crow’s-nest overlooking the Northsea.
The construction is made of Lariks Rafters. The rest is a timber construction. Outside walls and roof are cladded with western red cedar. The wood will turn grey over the years so the resemblance with the Helmgrass will be reached.
In the basement are three bedrooms, a deposit, a bathroom and a toilet. This part can be used separately from the upper part. On the ground level, there’s a living room, a kitchen and another bedroom surrounded by terraces for morning and evening sun.
